A long standing Melbourne Christmas sight is the Myer Christmas windows.

In their 64th year, these magical Christmas displays framed by the Myer windows, are iconic in the city’s festive scene.

You can see the Myer Christmas windows 7 days a week from 7am to 11pm, starting from the 10th November. They’re on display all the way up until the 5th of January 2020 - so if you’re in Melbourne at Christmas there is no reason to miss out.

The Myer window display is in the centre of the city and a short distance from other spectacular Christmas sights.

If you are visiting Melbourne at Christmas, Carols by Candlelight can be a memorable experience.

The Carols are held on Christmas Eve at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl located on the lawns of Kings Domain near the city.

With a lineup of performers and entertainment shown to national television audiences, being there to experience it live can be even better.

Sit in the crowd and enjoy captivating performances and a special Christmas atmosphere.

You can buy tickets for the event through Ticketek and support children who are blind or have low vision. Read more about how the event supports children with Vision Australia.

Boxing Day test cricket

Backyard cricket matches are not the only locations in Melbourne for cricket action during the festive season.

On 26 December the Boxing Day test cricket match spins into action at the MCG.

The match is iconic on the Australian cricket calendar and takes place at a perfect time for crowds to soak up the sporting atmosphere.

This year will see Australia take on New Zealand, the first test match between the neighbouring countries at the MCG in many years.

Tickets for any of the four days of the event are available through Ticketek.

Boxing Day sales

Looking for a post-Christmas bargain? Be part of the Boxing Day sales in the city.

City locations for the sales include Swanston Street and Melbourne City Central.

You can be part of the early morning rush or join the crowds a bit later.

In an era of online shopping the annual sales still draw crowds because of the great discounts on offer.
