Catching a once-in-a-decade performance?

Running a stall at a trade show?

Referred to by Melbourne locals as Jeff’s Shed after former State Premier Jeff Kennett, MCEC hosts many high-profile events.

With capacity for thousands of attendees and visitors as well as hundreds of stalls and booths, MCEC is a constant hub of activity, no matter the time of year.

Why choose Urban Central for MCEC accommodation?

As Melbourne’s premiere convention, MCEC sees many visitors from all over the country and the world:

  • Convention attendees
  • Vendors
  • Concert-goers
  • Support staff

And each of these people need a place to stay while they’re in Melbourne!

If you have an event at MCEC in the coming weeks or months, finding affordable CBD accommodation is probably close to the top of your priority list.

And Urban Central can help!

Location, location, location!

When you’re staying in an unfamiliar city, the last thing you want is to get lost.

Luckily for you, Urban Central’s prime location makes finding your way around the city possible.

Our hostel in Melbourne is located on City Road, less than 5 minutes’ walk from the front entrance of MCEC.

Getting to MCEC from our Melbourne hostel is a piece of cake. When you exit Urban Central, all you’ll have to do is turn left on Clarendon Street and walk straight.

Not only does this mean that you can’t get lost, but it also gives you that little bit of extra time to sleep in, knowing that you’re only 5 minutes away from where you need to be!

And if you keep walking past MCEC for another 10 minutes, you’ll enter Melbourne’s free tram zone and Southern Cross Station, allowing you to explore everything else Melbourne has to offer.

Affordable CBD accommodation

Melbourne is Australia’s second-most expensive city, and the world’s 15th - the unfortunate price of being one of the world’s most liveable.

Not to mention, MCEC is in Southbank - one of Melbourne’s ritziest districts.

As such, finding a place to stay in Southbank can get pricey. If you’re dead-set on finding a place nearby, you’ll have to pay up for:

  • An expensive private rental
  • A room at Crown Casino
  • One of the South Wharf hotels

Needless to say, none of these options are very good for the budget-conscious attendees - the last two in particular can run up to hundreds of dollars for a room!

Luckily for you, Urban Central offers an affordable alternative.

We know how expensive MCEC accommodation can be. We work hard to offer affordable accommodation in Melbourne, with accommodation starting from just $25 per night in a four dorm share.

We offer various types of accommodation packages

Different attendees and visitors have different requirements for CBD accommodation.

Does the traditional hostel experience not speak to you? We offer affordable private rooms for those who want something a bit more secluded.

Travelling with a few guests? We offer family rooms with space for four.

Whatever your requirements, we’ve got a room to fit!

Side note: Do you know why’s MCEC is referred to as “Jeff’s Shed”?

(Short) story time!

The reason it’s referred to as “Jeff’s Shed” is due to the fact that Kennett, the Victorian Premier at the time, abandoned plans to build a museum, and elected to create a conference venue, instead.
