Australia is known for having some of the world’s best beaches.

Best beaches in Melbourne

And with legendary shores such as Surfer’s Paradise and Sydney’s Bondi beach, it’s not hard to see where that title comes from.

While our might not be as well-known around the world as Bondi or Surfer’s, Melbourne’s beaches are still iconic in their own way. If you’re planning a trip to our great city anytime soon, these golden shores (and the sights around them) are definitely worth a trip!

Top up your Myki and pack the sunscreen: here are some of the best beaches in Melbourne.

St Kilda Beach

If you thought it was impossible for a beach to be trendy, you’ve never been down to St Kilda.

St Kilda beach is more than a beach - it’s a whole ecosystem of food and culture.

Fantastic restaurants line the foreshore, so you’ll never have to settle for anything less than delicious. And if the was a person, it would be the most popular kid in class, with its calendar filled with music, festivals  and events.

And of course, who could forget the iconic Luna Park, located right on St Kilda Beach?

Experience that old-school carnival vibe with rides that go back a century, classic attractions and all your favourite games and activities. Put this piece of Melbourne history on your itinerary!

Brighton Beach

Walk around Brighton’s streets and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most exclusive suburbs in the entire city.

Heritage-listed buildings, expensive houses, leafy, wide streets… and of course, who could forget the fantastic beach?

Yes, even Brighton’s beach exudes class. Maybe it’s the white sand. Perhaps it’s the dazzling view of the city. Or it could be spillover from the rest of Brighton.

If you ask us, it probably has something to do with Brighton’s iconic, impossible-to-miss beach boxes!

Built over 100 years ago, the Brighton beach boxes are the product of a much stuffier period. The beach boxes were built to give beachgoers a place to shelter from the heat and prying eyes at a time when bare ankles were considered scandalous.

While society has become less prudish as time passes, the beach boxes have stayed. And over time, they’ve become a miniature art show, with each sporting its own unique colours.

They’re a hit with locals and tourists alike - a piece of living history, a unique sight, and 100% Instagram-worthy!
