Organisation is key!


You MUST be outside of Australia to apply for your first years working visa.

You CAN extend the visa during the first year whilst in the country, however if you leave and extend, you will need to wait for it to be approved prior to your return.

what visa do I need?


You will need to ensure you have a working
holiday visa (subclass 417) to legally gain employment.

This Visa allows you to work in Australia to supplement your holiday funds, working for a maximum of 6 months at any one work place.

What to expect from your employer


awards/wages
There should be no discrepancy between the rates of pay and benefits you receive as an employee on a working visa, in comparison to permanent residents and citizens.

The Australian government has minimum wages set for all industries, if you feel you are being underpaid head to the fair work ombudsman to find out your award.


superannuation
Your employer will set aside superannuation each week. You are entitled to claim this upon your departure from Australia. You will need to contact the Australian Tax Office to file a claim.
