the cover letter
Try to address the cover letter to a real person rather than 'to whom it may concern'.
The letter is all about selling yourself so include a paragraph about your skills and what you can bring to the company - do not summarise your resume, but include a couple of the most relevant points.
Finish it off by explaining that you will follow up with a phone call or iniatiate contact on their behalf and sign off formally.

Personal Details
Full name - no nick names!
Contact details - be sure you have an Australian mobile number - you can
buy a sim card from any supermarket for a couple of dollars.
Include an address if possible.
Objective
This is a basic outline of what you can bring to the potential workplace and your goals and expectations of your career there.
Education/Experience
These should be two separate headings, however place which ever is most relevant above.
Information should always be listed with the most recent at the top.
You can include volunteer work in this section too.
Other information
Include any other relevant information in this section (skills and abilities). It is always an idea to include your interests/hobbies etc.
Referees
Try to include two referees - again is is best if you can include Australian contact numbers. Ask your previous employer for a written letter of recommendation if it was a workplace outside of Australia.
